1. Intricate Designs – Taylor Swift stepped outside her fashion comfort zone as she walked down the red carpet on a dramatic and form fitting gold gown. My Quince saw the footage from Kendall Jenner’s Sweet 16 Party that was aired on ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians’. Although Kendall was celebrating her sweet 16, here are some great tips and trends that you can incorporate into your quince. Read on to find out how to throw the perfect quince for friends and family as well as great quince ideas!

Photo booth. You can’t go wrong with a photo booth at your quince. Great fun for all age groups, a photo booth is sure to please all your guests. Outside of the photo booth, set up a table filled with props, such as large sunglasses, bright colored hats, or feathered boas. Guests can take silly and funny or sweet and cute pictures. Kendall’s photo booth was a hit with her friends as well as her older sisters and their husbands. Leave guests with priceless memories and a fun keepsake from your quince.

Finger food. For her birthday venue, Kendall fell in love with the luxurious and trendy Andaz Hotel, which featured a rooftop pool and a huge room for the dance floor. Dressing your court is a big task. Traditionally, your court consists of 14 people – 7 boys and 7 girls. Whether you have a smaller court or just all damas or all chambelanes, finding the right attire for them can be difficult. Your court should look impeccable because they will escort you as you make your grand entrance as well as stand beside you in your quince pictures.

1. Ask for assistance. When you and your court visit stores to pick your outfits, ask assistance from the employees there. These people are there to help you and they are knowledgeable about dresses and tuxes. They can provide tips and advice on how to pick the clothes to match the quince that you’ve been dreaming of. Don’t be afraid to tell them what you’re looking for!

2. Buy at the right time. You want to buy clothes for your court well in advance so that you can focus on other party details but don’t choose them too early because then it’s more likely that you will need to make alterations. The first step in bringing together your perfect quinceañera vision is finding the right venue, or location. After all, the venue sets the atmosphere and tone of your quinceañera. The venue entrance determines how much of a statement you’ll make as you present yourself to guests and the surrounding scenery will either get your guests in the mood for fun or elegance. Because the venue is so important, we present you with these tips from knowledgeable insiders on choosing the perfect venue!

1. Rent a venue in a slow time of the year. "Venues are like hotels - they don't make money standing empty. See what's available, and see if the venue organizers are willing to negotiate," says Albert Mendez, an Atlanta-based hotel and restaurant expert. Community centers, convention halls, and conference forums all have slow periods in the winter and early spring. While they might go for a bargain, the downside is these facilities don't provide catering or supplies such as linens and tablecloths.

2. Consider choosing a wedding facility. "Practically nobody gets married in months like December, January, and February," says Roberto Caño, the manager of a Los Angeles wedding ballroom. "The wedding season doesn't really pick up until May. For the rest of the time, the hall and the kitchen usually just sit around idle." Like other venue slow periods, booking a wedding facility during these months may allow you to negotiate or pay a cheaper price.

3. Choose a venue that complements you. But the most important part about picking a venue is not money, but thinking about what setting complements your ideal theme and personality. If you love the outdoors, a venue with a large, sprawling garden would probably make a good fit. Or, if you’re more of the outgoing and social type, using a larger venue to recreate a beach party might also offer a solution.

4. Tour each facility. Website images and brochure photographs can be carefully staged to give an unrealistic look at the venue's space and condition. "There's no substitute for actually walking around, looking in the corners and seeing if the floors are clean," Caño says. "Ask yourself if you feel comfortable with it. Would you recommend it to friends? Would you want to be a guest there?" We suggest touring each facility, either on their "open house" days or by appointment with a facility-booking agent.

Experts say the venue is ultimately like a blank slate or stage on which to produce your quince celebration. The right backdrop - the right "setting" - can go a long way to creating the kind of fiesta you'll remember for a lifetime.

The “vals” is a dance between the father and daughter performed typically at the beginning of the party. The dance style is usually the waltz but don’t be afraid to incorporate other styles too. At first, you can start off with the elegant waltz but then ease into a style that is livelier. Another alternative is that if there is something that you and your father have in common you can perform that instead. For example, singing a duet together is just as emotional as a dance.

Summer is just days away and it brings in fabulous new trends, varying from bold and bright colors to feminine and delicate styles. This season, don’t be afraid to take risks with fashion and appearance as you prepare for your quinceañera! To plan the perfect summer celebration, we present you with 5 great summer quince trends:

1. Orange touches/accents. Orange is this summer’s “it” color and incorporate it into your quince by having orange accents in your decorations or place settings. Opt for lively orange flowers as your centerpieces to brighten up any table. Have orange napkins or orange napkin rings for an unexpected pop of color. Bright and redder oranges demand attention so be careful that the other colors in your color scheme do not clash with the orange that you choose. HIGHLIGHTS OF THE MUSIC BILLBOARD AWARDS

The Music Billboard Awards aired Sunday night and we were delighted to see the music scene’s most popular and talented stars. Eye-catching fashion, impressive performances, and the suspense of finding out the winners of the award show kept us entertained with constant surprises.

A rare sight was Brittany Spears who was featured in two collaborations with Rihanna and Nicki Minaj. Dressed in revealing outfits, Spears and Rihanna started the award show by singing Rihanna’s popular hit “S&M”. After, Spears appeared at the end of Minaj’s nautical performance of “Super Bass”. Other highlights included performances from One Republic, Beyonce, the Black Eyed Peas, and many more.

Speaking of fashion, the night was filled with bold and unique outfit choices. Rihanna wore an all-white suit and Minaj appeared on the red carpet in a light blue jumpsuit. Selena Gomez was a stunner in a Dolce & Gabbana black form-fitting dress complete with cut outs and a thigh-high slit. She accessorized with Neil Lane jewelry, a Judith Leiber clutch, and cute Guiseppe Zanotti sandals. Her boyfriend, Justin Beiber, attracted just as much attention in his shiny gold jacket and new hairstyle.

One unexpected moment was when Beiber won Top New Artist Award and, before going up to accept his award, shared a sweet kiss with Gomez. Beiber and Gomez announced that they were a couple earlier this year and were seen holding hands and hugging but the on-camera kiss shows the public just how close the two rising stars are.

Overall, the star-studded event was a memorable show filled with performances of the latest hits, awards acknowledging talented musicians, and unexpected moments. With so many new trends seen last night, we can’t wait to see what is planned for the Music Billboard Awards next year! What were your favorite outfits of the night?

Hello Quince girls!

We are here to tell you about the awesome Teen Party Expo that we went to this past Sunday on March 13th. The expo, held at the Los Angeles Convention Center, was packed with people. There were stations filled with everything that a girl needs to be considering when planning her quinceañera.

There were photo booths, dresses, and floral arrangements. Some of the more unconventional stations included eyelash extensions, bra straps, and glitter tattoos. The cakes were so pretty and super yummy!

The My Quince table was busy and we were really excited to meet a lot of you. We got a chance to let girls know about our amazing sweepstakes to win their dream quince dress. If you haven’t heard about our fabulous giveaway, check out our page HERE, where you can apply online. The girls at the Teen Party Expo got a chance to see our newest issue! We could not miss the fashion show with models strutting down the stage in gorgeous outfits that definitely seemed fit for spring. The bold prints, lime green, and pale yellow dresses reminded us of blooming flowers while the classic pink and white dresses made us feel like we were looking at a princess. Chandelier earrings and sparkling tiaras made the dresses even more glamorous.

Being at the expo was a great experience. It is definitely helpful for girls that don’t know where to start when planning their quinceañera because here you will find all of the things that you need to be thinking about and all in one place. The creative and fun displays provide great ideas and the vendors provide tips and advice to any questions that you might have. We highly recommend that you check a quince expo out, check out our Event Calendar for upcoming quince events. You never know where inspiration will hit!

We at My Quince are looking forward to a great 2011 and wish all of you a wonderful year while getting ready for your much anticipated quinceañera. In this our first blog post, we are going to give you some ideas for your vals or baile sorpresa along with pictures from a real quince dance routine!

In the vals and baile sorpresa is a great way to add your personal touch to your fiesta, and in order to give your guests a great show you will need to prepare and practice. First, choose the music and routines you will want to perform, it would help to contact a professional choreographer that specializes in quinceañera vals and baile sorpresa. They have the experience and knowledge of what music and what moves work the best. Make sure and have your own ideas, moves, and steps to show the choreographer of what you would want. Remember this is your day and your dance!

We went to one of the best quinceañeras ever and here you will see some of the dance moves that Roxana Hernandez did on her special day. You, too, can dance and perform like a professional and if your dance routine goes wrong in any way just remember to smile and keep dancing away. No one will know.

A BEAUTY QUEEN

Jimena Navarrete, the 22-year-old from Guadalajara, Mexico is our new Miss Universe, she beat out 82 contestants for the top spot. The Mexican native Navarrete in less than 24 hours after she was crowned has become a sensation on trending topics on Twitter and thousands of fans have flooded her Facebook fan page.

So, we at My Quince magazine give her props. So who is the woman who ousted 82 other competitors for international beauty bragging rights? Here are five things to know about Jimena Navarrete...

1. She knows how to handle tough questions
After Monday's pageant in Las Vegas, Navarrete was asked her opinion about Arizona's recent immigration law and she strategically answered without alienating either side. "Every country has the right to impose and enact their laws," she said. "But I tell you that all the Mexicans and the Latinos that are living here in the United States are hardworking people – people who want to improve on their quality of life."

2. She's been modeling since she was a teen
Since the age of quince, the 5-foot-8-inch Navarrete, a self-described nature enthusiast who enjoys boating and motorcycles, has been working in the modeling world with gigs that include working the runway at fashion shows. Most recently she walked at Mexico Fashion Week 2009 for designer Macario Jimenez.

3. She loves her sash. A lot.
During her reign as Miss Universe, she hopes to bring attention to people with HIV/AIDS and breast cancer – but she also plans to let "the whole world to know about my country and my people," she said after the competition. Her most prized possession? Her sash because it "has Mexico's name. I'm very proud to be representing my country and it's a big honor for me," she previously said.

4. Also on the agenda: Boosting body image
"I studied nutrition and I would like everyone to understand that it is not about your looks it is how you feel inside," the brunette, who is only the second Mexican woman to win the Miss Universe title, said through an interpreter. "And when you feel good inside you look good."

5. She likes sensitive men – and already found hers
"The advice that I can give to all the men in the world, it would be to be more sensitive, more lovely or to express in an easy way [what] you're feeling," she said during a pre-pageant interview with the Miss Universe organization. Navarrete seems to have found that in her boyfriend of four years, Pablo Nieto.

In Miami, reporters scrambled over each other just to get a sneak peek at this famous party! Sammy Sosa, professional baseball player, and his wife Sonia threw a muy elegante quince for their daughter Kenia. They chose to have it at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach, one of Miami’s most historical hotels. The hotel was breathtaking! It was chic, elegant and the view was incredible! Endless ocean, surrounded huge swimming pools, fountains, and beautiful modern furniture. Champagne was chilled, the Mediterranean cuisine dripped with flavor, the tables were covered in sweets and decadent delights, what a quince!

The hotel wasn't the only thing stunning about this party; the guest list was to die for! Among the special guests were; first runner-up of Miss Universe 2009, Ada Aimee de la Cruz, Raul de Molina and his wife Milie, Felipe Viel with his daughters, and José José who assisted with his recuperated wife Sarita!

Kenia wore a stunning traditional white dress surprising all the fashionistas who rave that having a colored dress for your quince is the only type of dress you should have. Kenia proved them all wrong in her stunning white gown that flowed like an angel as she swept in long strides across the dance floor. She danced with her father and two brothers Sammy Jr. and Michael. Then she showed off her skills with her modern choreographed dance. The hundreds of super star guests enjoyed the beautiful atmosphere, the exquisite cuisine and danced till morning!

No quinceañera is complete without the right flowers. The best pick of flowers can not only make your party look great, but it can also liven up the atmosphere.

The simplest way to choose flowers is to color-coordinate with your overall theme. If you decide on a princess-themed party, try soft pink and pastel-colored flowers, like carnations or roses - a more expensive option is orchids. For a less serious theme, try fun orange and yellow flowers to spice up the party!

Another simple way to choose flowers is by choosing your “birth flower.” For example, the birth flower for January is a carnation, for July, larkspur, and for December, poinsettia. This will get you a good starting point and help you decorate your celebration site, and best of all, these flowers will add special meaning to your big day.

Of course, cost is always very important, so instead of choosing winter flowers in the middle of July, go with seasonal flowers, especially choices such as roses, which are available year round. Here are tips for keeping a fresh face when changing your look
from day to night on your quince fiesta. These tips will help you
change your makeup from soft and natural during the day to
dramatic and bold for the night!

Day look for your Quince:
Face: A tinted moisturizer will keep your skin looking fresh and adding a light natural pink blush will give your skin a little bit of color.

Eyes: During the day, stick with the light shades for eye shadows and use a light concealer for that fresh feel look.

Lips: A nude, pink sheer lipgloss will go a long way and brighten your smile.

Night look for your Quince:
Face: Since the night calls for sweating it out on the dance floor, use a loose powder instead of liquid to avoid shiny spots on your face.

Eyes: The night is for a more dramatic look like smoky eyes, eyeliner, darker shades of eye shadows and bold mascara.

Lips: Your lipgloss should be a darker shade of pink or red, but not dark enough to take the attention away from your daring eye makeup.
